Reboot (Reboot #1)
Published by HarperTeen on May 7th, 2013
Genre: Young Adult Science Fiction
Pages: 365
Format: Paperback
Rating:

Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation). Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum. The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

My Thoughts

Set on dystopian Earth, humankind has gone through hardships and heartbreak. An outbreak of an unknown virus has swept the nation, miraculously bringing the recent dead back to life. The HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation) stepped up to the plate, seeing the 'Reboot's as superhuman crime fighters. For Wren One-Seventy-Eight, life at the HARC was practically all she knew since her death five years ago. Determined and passionate about her duty to take down human scum, Wren is known not to be all that friendly. Until the day Callum Twenty-Two arrives at the HARC with numerous human emotions and questions. Originally challenging her own rule of training higher numbers, Wren takes a change on Callum, hoping to prove lower numbers are just as ferocious as higher ones. As secrets are uncovered, Wren and Callum must decide whose side they're on or suffer the consequences. Where do I even begin with this book! I absolutely loved it! The action. The humor. The concept. It is all there! Immediately, you're sucked into a fast paced, action packed, do or die adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat! When I first began reading, I knew right away this book was going to be interesting. I enjoyed how different and unique the story was compared to other dystopian novels. Wren and Callum's relationship is by far one of my favorites. I love how their personalities bounce back and forth, balancing each other out. Their witty banter granted me with numerous grins and chuckles throughout the book. Tintera's writing is flawlessly smooth. I glided through the book effortlessly. She knows how to evoke raw emotion and make your heart race. The details and descriptions really set the tone and mood for the story, giving it a dark feel. I also enjoy how much thought and depth went into this story. I am thrilled to begin the second book in a few days!
